Laverda was established in 1970 when the Slater brothers
Richard and Roger became the Laverda importer for the
UK. During the early 1970's the sales of Laverda 750 motorcycles
had risen to fifty a year, prior to the launch of the
3C in late 1973.
After
the launch of the first Laverda triple, the 3C sales throughout
the 1970's exceeded 500 per year and the LAVERDA LEGEND
the JOTA was created. The Jota became the fastest production
bike in the world. In 1980 Roger Slater moved first to
Canada and then to America where he became the importer
for Laverda.
In
addition to the Jota, Slater Brothers were also responsible
for the development of the Montjuic, Mirage, Alpino S
and Formula Mirage which sold worldwide. The company was
restructured and in 1986 Richard Slater and his business
partner Mary Bufton, who had been with Slater Laverda
since 1980, continued with the supply of spare parts to
both the trade and direct to the Laverda owner. |
